Book Review: The Actor and the Housewife by Shannon Hale

The Actor and the Housewife The Actor and the Housewife by Shannon Hale

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I rarely read a book that makes me laugh out loud, but this one did, several times. Shannon Hale is probably my favorite author. Her versatility in storytelling in amazing. She can write juvenile fantasy fiction and adult humorous fiction with equal ability. Her characters are well thought out and described. This book was written about a Mormon stay-at-home-mom who writes a screenplay and happens to meet her "Hollywood crush". This books was full of memorable humor and poinient moments (and no I can't spell, sorry). Here is a quote about when the main character fell in love with her husband, I know it's syrup with a heaping teaspoon of sugar, but it was very much the main character. "She'd thought she was in love before, but now those faded relationships seemed quaint and childish. Being in love with Mike lifted her off the ground, swathed her in fuzzy blankets, kept her warm and cozy everywhere she went. Awake or asleep, her heart thrilled, her lips smiled. The whole world was gilded, water was nectar, cloth was silk on her skin, every child was an angel and every stranger her best friend. Yay! Ya for love and the perfect man and the absolute gorgeousness of everything, everything!" Who of us hasn't felt this "head over heels" in love feeling? For that matter who of us hasn't wanted to be loved like that? I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a good fun laugh, and a heartbreaking cry all from the same book.
