Tin Grin

Emma is now a tin grin! She got braces on March 9th. Holy Cow! That means she’s had them on for over a month now. We knew for about 4 days beforehand that she was going to get them, and she drove us nutso because she was so excited to get them on. Yes, I know, she didn’t know what was in store for her, or how much she wouldn’t be able to eat once she got them. I guess it’s good that we don’t know these things ahead of time, otherwise we probably wouldn’t do it. This has been somewhat of a long road for us, because we saw an orthodontist just after we moved here (almost a year and a half ago), and he recommend that we let her adult teeth come in some more, and then that we pull 4 of them, because she just doesn’t have room in her mouth for all of them. He said that he rarely recommends this route, about 2 times a year is all, but that she just doesn’t have enough room. When we went to see him the end of February, he said that now was the time we should do it. This has never sat well with me, but I thought, “Hey, he’s the professional” and so we were going to do it. I decided to get a second opinion (after much “hitting me over the head” from the Spirit), and so I scheduled one for March 4th with another orthodontist, and told them up front that this is a second opinion. They took x-rays and looked at her teeth, and said that it IS NOT necessary to pull any of her adult teeth, as all her teeth lean in towards the center of her mouth, so we can just pull them upright with the braces and make room for all of them. Can you say **whew**!!! I am so glad that I listened to that “little nudge” and got the second opinion. So now she had braces :) She picked bright green and bright pink for her colors this first time around. We don’t see the orthodontist again until the end of May. Isn’t she cute??? (sorry about the picture quality, it was taken with my cell phone, you wanted to see everything going by reflected in her glasses didn’t you?)

I think she looks adorable. Now her and Kayla have something else in common. Kayla picked those colors a few weeks ago too. Now she is wearing black and red, GO UTES! Anyway I am glad you got another opinion too. Tell her she looks way cute and its really not that bad not to eat all that stuff, its not only bad for her teeth but for her health too.

Good for you, getting a second opinion! She looks like a happy girl and it will be worth it.
