The Mermaid Chair by Sue Monk Kidd
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I LOVED The Secret Life of Bees by this author. This book is no less visual in it's descriptions. I could totally picture the settings and characters. For that reason alone I would have given it 5 stars. This author is fantastic! The reason that I gave it 3 stars only is becuse I didn't care for the subject matter. I guess I can't even really say that. The story is a middle-life "coming of age" story (I hate to call it a mid-life crisis, but essentially that's what it is) about a woman in her 40's. I think I could relate to how she felt trapped by her life, I just wasn't fond of how she came to her resolution. Call me a prude, or whatever you like, it's my standards, and I don't have to agree with the way other's conduct their lives (woah! Now I sound like I'm talking about a neighbor down the street or something....maybe I should get out a little more). I do love the way Sue Monk Kidd "illustrates" her stories with words, and would never shy away from reading something by her again!
